About Lorraine Centrella
Born, raised, and still living in a small town in Connecticut, I am now retired after 30+ years of working as a teacher and a substitute teacher for preschool through 5th grade. I feel that it's never too late to start a new interest or learn something new. I have not had formal art training or art education; but I have always been intrigued with color, design, texture, and composition in the natural world.
A few years ago, I tried my hand at painting with acrylics. I like the diversity - from wet-on-wet to the creamy, buttery, consistency. One of my personal goals is to grow, learn, and experiment as an artist. I enjoy the outdoors, so landscape painting appeals to me. My latest venture is into the realm of abstract painting.
Painting is my creative outlet. It can be fun, relaxing, exhilarating, frustrating, and mind absorbing. It is my transport to another place and time.
As of today, I have exhibited at the following locations:
My paintings were chosen twice for The New Britain Museum of American Art Nor'Easter juried show. "Sunset On Arrakis" was the pick for 2015 and in 2017, the juror selected "170,000 Light Years From Home".
For the two shows at The New Haven Paint and Clay Club the juror's choices were "Matisse The Cat" in 2018 and "Starburst" in 2019. My painting,
"Ascension" received a Juror's Choice award for the 2022 New Haven Paint and Clay Members Exhibit.
Connecticut library shows include Prospect Public Library, Farmington Main Library, Russell Library in Middletown, and Southbury Public Library. I also showed at Artspace in Hartford, CT.
I am a member of The New Haven Paint and Clay Club.
